Dependence on western pharmaceuticals is a very common problem in the United States. Many patients with chronic diseases often have multiple health problems together at the same time. Some of the more common ones are: pain, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, worry, poor sleep and fatigue; digestive disorders companied by allergies, emotional problems and pain. Cardiovascular disorders linked with hormonal imbalances, neurological problems, etc. These patients usually have visited many doctors, done many tests, and have taken many western medicines for years (or for a lifetime) which cause dependence on these western pharmaceuticals.
The dependence on western pharmaceutics are showed: 1) some of patients with chronic diseases must look for new and more powerful medicines because the medicines that they have used for a long time lose their effectiveness; 2) patients with multiple health problems of the body usually take many different medicines every day, but they are still looking for more medicines because their conditions have not improved; 3) Some patients need additional medicines to control side effects or cure new problems caused by long term use; 4) some patients even have taken medicine for years but the condition(s) have not improved and lab tests so no improvement. Under these conditions, these medicines have shown no helpful benefits and could cause addiction or negative side effects; 5) unfortunately, a few patients have taken so many medicines for so long time that doctors can not give them additional prescriptions when new conditions appear.
Many patients who do not get good results are always looking for the newest and best medicines. Most patients who take too many western medicines (for years) are upset about this situation but they have difficulty stopping or reducing their dependence on these medicines. However, today they can try acupuncture and Chinese medicine without the negative side effects. This approach is completely holistic and will not only benefit chronic diseases but also reduce your need for western pharmaceuticals. In China since the 1950’s, we have treated diseases with a novel integrative approach to medicine that combines acupuncture, Chinese medicine and modern western medicine. We have used acupuncture and Chinese medicine for reducing dependence on western pharmaceutics which has provided great results and experience.
1) Stopping all western medicines: some patients with chronic diseases who have taken medicines for a long time can stop all western medicines when their conditions have changed, symptoms improved and lab tests have gone back to normal after treatments with acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Some examples are: taking western medicine for pain, allergies, acid reflux, menopause, hypothyroidism, and hormone replace therapy, stress, anxiety, depression, etc.
2) Stop or reduce a number of western medicines: some patients with chronic diseases who have taken many medicines can stop or reduce several of the western medicines as a few conditions and symptoms are altered and lab tests have improved after treatments with acupuncture and Chinese medicine. For example, taking many western medicines for pain interferes with stress, anxiety, depression, anger, worry, poor sleep and fatigue. Digestive disorders accompanied by allergies, emotional problems and pain. Cardiovascular disorders linked to hormonal imbalance, neurological problems, etc.
3) Decreasing side effects of western medicines: acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be used to control side effects or to substitute for western medicines to reduce side effects in order to help patients continue their treatments under such conditions. Patients with some diseases report that they have been able to take western medicines but have difficulty continuing treatments because of side effects. Examples include: taking western medicine to control side effects for Parkinson’s syndrome, chemo-therapy or radiotherapy for cancer.
Usually, the procedure used to reduce western medicine should be performed step by step in order to prevent withdrawal syndrome induced by abruptly stopping western medicines when using acupuncture and Chinese medicine. So far as we know from clinical research and experience in China, there are no negative side effects and no dependence from the use of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
